Tobacco Road Blues

A One-Day Workshop with Mihai (SF) & Amy

Home * Registration

September 13, 2007 at the Triangle Dance Studio in Durham, N.C.

The venue is located off of S. Miami Blvd in a residential community.  Once you pass the dental office on the right-hand side, make an right turn onto the gravel driveway.  You will see a house with the sign saying something about a wellness center, and the venue is adjacent to this house.  You can park in the lot in front of the venue's entrance.

Blues Workshop, 7-9

Mihai (see bio and videos) and Amy will teach an all-levels blues workshop (the second hour will definitely be more advanced), focusing on close embrace, connection, contrast between various blues styles and creativity. If you have any requests after reading the class descriptions on his website, please list them when you pre-register for the workshop, and he will try to address them. Besides technique, Mihai will share his love for blues dancing and his strong opinions on what it's all about.

Blues Dancing, 9-midnight

Mihai will DJ a mix of Chicago, acoustic, piano, harmonica and jazzy blues, with a little added spice of R&B/soul, gospel or hip-hop. The main artists in his playlist are John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, Ray Charles, Sidney Bechet, Etta James, B.B. King and, of course, Junior Wells of "Tobacco Road" fame. He will adjust to the crowd, and play a few more fast (100+ bpm) songs if appropriate.
